Black Imagination Film Set Program

The Black Imagination Film Set Program is a groundbreaking new initiative created to provide underrepresented communities in Winnipeg and across Manitoba with access to high-level film education and hands-on experience on professional film sets particularly those centered on Black-led stories.

Launched by Black Film Space Manitoba, Winnipeg’s first Black-owned film production company, this program is designed to uplift marginalized voices by equipping participants with the tools, mentorship, and real-world experience needed to bring their own stories to life at a professional standard.

Unlike traditional programs, the Black Imagination Film Set Program emphasizes hands-on, on-set learning. Participants will work directly alongside industry professionals, including producers, directors, screenwriters, lighting and sound technicians, as well as marketing, branding, and public relations experts. This holistic approach offers participants a 360° understanding of how stories are developed, produced, and brought to audiences.

In addition to practical training, participants will have the rare opportunity to see their work showcased on television, in theatres, and across major broadcasters and streaming platforms. Black Film Space Manitoba is actively partnering with broadcasters and streaming services to ensure that stories from underrepresented communities are seen, heard, and celebrated.
